Vimbai did his primary and secondary education at Mazarura School in Mazarura Village in Nyanga.
He started sculpting whilst he was still at school where he joined the Nayamhuka Craft Centre.
He was then inspired by his other sculpting 'Mashaya' brothers who reside in Harare and was encouraged by them to continue in the arts.
He worked with his brother Cephas where he gained some skills on how  to work on hard stones like Springstone. After some experience he then started working for himself and then improved his own style.
He now sells his work to dealers from around the world in North America, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Canada, Australia, Holland, Belgium, South Korea, Switzerland and South Africa.
Vimbai works at his brother's studio in Greendale, Harare with Tinei, Cephas, Givemore, Precious and Promise Mashaya and all their assistants.
